The system deployed for AC/DC on their current (2008-09) concert tour,Touring for the first time since 2003, rock legends AC/DC are once again on the road with the only speaker system able to reproduce their full-bore sonic assault to their satisfaction: X - Array from Electro-Voice. The tour celebrates the band's most recent album 'Black Ice,' their 19th studio album in 36 years. The X-Array system for the tour was designed by long-time Electro-Voice user and consultant Harry Witz of Clair Global, the man behind some of the largest PA system designs of all time.
Analog-centric AC/DC also favours the warm, responsive sound of Midas mixing consoles. The Black Ice Tour's console spec includes a vintage Pro 40 and a Heritage 4000 operated by Front of House Engineer Paul "Pab" Boothroyd (who is also Sir Paul McCartney's FOH man) and Monitor Engineer Mike Adams, respectively. A Klark Teknik DN9696 - the world's most powerful digital recorder - adds a high-tech edge to Front of House. These ingredients add up to one seriously powerful rock 'n' roll machine, as the 500,000 - plus people who have already checked out the tour's North America leg with testify. Over one million people will have seen the show

Midas PRO 6 LIVE in Concert of AC/DC's World Tour

November 2008 saw the Australian release of the new Midas Pro 6 digital mixing system. Already this is proving to be a runaway success around the world with AC/DC's world tour the first major tour to feature them with one at front and one at back.

prior to its Australian launch a Pro 6 system was shown off at 'Trackside' festival in Canberra by leading ACT production company 'Eclipse Lighting and Sound'. This system was at FOH on the mainstage which featured a line up of well known Aussie bands; 'The Panics', 'Gyroscope', 'Cut Copy' and 'The Living End'. To facilitate the first gig in Australia for a Pro 6 local product manager Phill Webb was on hand to set the console up and provide support to the respective band engineers who all had their first experience of Midas digital. Patched into the Pro 6 to provide some comfort to engineers was a DN 360 equialiser across FOH with a well known tap delay also patched though all engineers did use the consoles internal effectts as well. Gyroscope and Living End engineer also inserted his favourite analogue outboard which included a Midas XL 42 pre-amp.

The Pro 6 was well received by all engineers with all expressing the desire to mix on one again. As with all Midas product the audio performance was superb with punters and organisers alike raving about how good the show was. Coupled with other reports from overseas Midas digital is considered by those who use it as the best sounding digital in the market with some even claiming it sounds better than Midas analogue.
